A small hand-carved bowl shaped from serpentine sourced from Mohua / Golden Bay.
Deep forest green gives the piece an almost black appearance at first glance, with flashes of brighter green and natural markings emerging through the stone. The softly dished centre and rounded, organic edges make it a tactile little piece — suited to holding a ring or other small taonga, or simply sitting as a stone object in its own right.
Hand shaped and polished to retain the natural character of the stone. It exhibits good translucency in the centre where it has been worked down to allow light to pass through.
